Traditional village pub by the cricket ground, on the Rotherham Round Walk and the Trans-Pennine Trail. The pub reopened under new leaseholders in late March 2019 following a period of closure and a complete refurbishment. It serves home-cooked food. It is advisable to book for Sunday lunches. Handy for visiting Keppel's Column and walks to Thorpe Hesley and Wentworth. Two changing real ales are usually sourced from regional breweries and the beer prices have been reduced under the new leaseholders. There is a dedicated "doggy" area for our canine friends. Though the 44 bus passes the pub, it is a ten to fifteen minute walk down Scholes Lane from the buses on Upper Wortley Road.

Historic Interest

One of the oldest buildings in this small hamlet. the building has been there for over 400 years but it has not always been a pub.It was part of the Wentworth Estate. There is a suggestion that it's been a pub since the 1850s. An old title register refers to a Conveyance from 1945 and there is a list of historic planning applications dating back to 1959, But the Gaunt Family (3 Generations) was in the Bay Horse back in 1915 or before. The Bay Horse was purchased by Enterprise Inns in 2001. Now part of Stonegate.
