Established in 1802, The Jawbone Tavern claims to be Bootle's oldest pub which could be true as it is located in what was the original Bootle village, however the current facade appears to be a lot more recent. Inside is a well set out lounge and bar area, clean and modern with several different seating areas, some raised up towards the rear of the pub. There are a number of TV screens but customers can find a place to sit away from most of them. Live music every Friday and Saturday night. The Jawbone was named after the whaling fleets which were based at Bootle docks.

The pub has been under new ownership since september 2024 and has been refurbished inside and out, there has also been a beer garden added and some artwork from local artist Paul Curtis that pays tribute to the pubs history.
