The L-shaped layout is typical of new-build Shipstones' pubs of this period, with a corner entrance into a small lobby and off-sales, and a bar in the wing each side. (Compare the former Shakespeares Head in Leicester city centre.) A large sparsely decorated bar on the left; a smaller bar on the right. There are two handpumps here, but both serve only keg beer from Carlsberg: Wainwright and "Hobgoblin Original IPA".

Historic Interest

Built by Shipstones Brewery of Nottingham in about 1960. It replaced an earlier pub of the same name (the adjacent Cross Street was previously Black Horse Lane). It was owned by Beeston Brewery until 1922 when Shipstones took them over.
