A city-centre Wetherspoon outlet with a long sprawling bar area which has various seating layouts and attracts customers of all ages and backgrounds. An interesting selection of guest beers is available, with a noticeable commitment to local breweries. Real cider is always available. Photographs on the walls feature many local dignitaries associated with the area's industrial past, particularly ceramics and pottery. A CAMRA notice board is present, and beer suggestions accepted.

There is step free access via the central front door into and throughout most of the pub. Although one raised seating area at the very left end is up five steps. There is an accessible toilet, which is next to the ladies toilet at the right-hand end. Normal gents’ toilet is up five steps.
