The Catherine Wheel is an impressive example of "provincial baroque" architecture. The facade and front rooms were built in 1680 as an addition to a much older house. By 1740 it was a coaching inn known as The Star, changing its name to the Catherine Wheel about 40 years later. Inside simple, sympathetic décor and large open fireplaces give the pub a welcoming feel, with bright and airy rooms at the front of the pub and cosier wooden-beamed spaces at the back. One of the front rooms serves as the main dining room and can be hired for functions. There's also a courtyard-style garden. Good food is served all week, sourced from local providers where possible. The last Thursday of the month is live music night, currently featuring the Pipley Bottom Boys.
