Soon after the Grand Junction Canal was extended to Newport Pagnell in 1817 this pub was built and opened as the Foaming Tankard. In 1864 the Newport Railway Co bought the spur canal, filled it in and built a railway line to Newport Pagnell, renaming the pub as the Railway Tavern. When the branch line closed in 1965 the pub was again renamed as the Newport Arms. The pub closed in 1993 and became an Italian restaurant, but more recently reopened as a pub/restaurant - serving Indian food within the "casual aura of a pub".

No real ale, but a good range of draught and craft beers, in bottles and on tap. Also serves a range of cocktails.

Historic Interest

Built in the early 19th century to profit from the new canal spur to Newport Pagnell. When this spur was filled in mid-19th century to form a railway the pub thrived on this new trade. In 1899 the pub landlord was part of a syndicate of local business people which provided one of the first rural bus services in England to link Olney with the Midland Railwa at Newport Pagnell.
