In the Grade II listed former Pearl Assurance Building. An impressive Victorian interior consisting of four distinctively different drinking areas, of which the green tiled room is particularly handsome. Medical memorabilia can be found throughout, reflecting the fact that the pub’s name commemorates Doctor Duncan, the first chief medical officer of Liverpool and a ruthless campaigner against poor living conditions in Victorian Liverpool. (Slaughterhouse) Waterhouse tiles in tiled room are apt as were used in the royal hospital as easier to wash down.

Conversion

The Grade II-listed former Pearl Insurance Regional Office has a stunning ceramic tiled entrance and an impressive Victorian interior with four distinct drinking areas. The entrance and the green-tiled room are the main attractions. Another tiled room is front right and is also particularly handsome. Outstanding tilework and medical memorabilia are throughout the venue, commemorating the first chief medical officer of Liverpool and a campaigner against poor living conditions in the city, after whom the pub is named. The Victorian pharmacy cabinet is notable.
