Reopened on April 29th 2026, following a period of closure, selling 3 real ales after being closed since 2007 The current owner had previously turned around the Robin hood pub at nearby Aughton. The pub majors on good food but also welcomes drinkers, and is at the heart of the historic village that is only accessed by the 20 bus 3 times a day Monday to Saturday, though it can be reached, via a 20-minute walk from the nearest bus stop in Thurcroft. There is a children's playground across the road on what was originally the animal pound. This is what gave rise to the sign saying beer drawn from the wood and sold by the pound.
Historic Interest
Centuries old stone building in the centre of the village. The quaint sign on the pub referring to beer being drawn from the wood and sold by the pound is a reference to the former location of the village animal pound across the road. The pub was closed from 2007 until 2021 and was saved from demolition by locals, Thurcroft Parish Council and the local CAMRA Branch in 2018.
